5 Tips For Using AirFanta Room Air Purifiers During Haze Season

The haze season has returned to Singapore, and we would like to share some tips on how you can use your AirFanta room air purifiers during this period of time to protect your health.

1. Ensure your filter replacements are in optimal condition

Both High Efficiency and High Efficiency + Activated Carbon filters have a limit to how much particulate matter (and smells/odors for the Activated Carbon filters) they can capture and remove before they reach their limit.

If you have been using your High Efficiency or High Efficiency + Activated Carbon filters for at least 6 to 12 months, you should considering replacing them with new ones to ensure your AirFanta room air purifier runs at peak performance.

2. Run 24/7

To enjoy the full health benefits from your AirFanta room air purifier, we recommend running them 24/7, or at least all the time when you’re at home or at the office. Your AirFanta room air purifier can’t help you remove haze from the air if it isn’t running at all.

3. Placement recommendations

We recommend setting the speed setting of all your AirFanta room air purifiers to at least setting 3 or 50% – 60% speed. This speed setting provides the best efficiency between performance, noise level and energy consumption.

You should also consider placing at least one AirFanta room air purifier in each room or in every 25 to 26 square meters of space.

By following both recommendations, your home or office will have at least 6 air changes per hour of clean air, which is within NEA’s recommendations. This will also greatly reduce the PM2.5 concentration in the indoor space.

4. Keep windows closed

If it’s possible, you should keep all of the windows in your indoor space closed to limit the amount of haze and PM2.5 from entering the space.

5. Differences between High Efficiency and High Efficiency + Activated Carbon filters

Both High Efficiency and High Efficiency + Activated Carbon filters can help against haze, but there are a few differences to take note.

While both types of filters are effective at removing the PM2.5 (particulate matter at or smaller than 2.5 micrometers), High Efficiency + Activated Carbon filters can remove the smell/odor that comes with haze, as well as potential VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in them.

Tips for protecting yourself from haze outdoors

1. Use a well-fitting N95 respirator when you are outdoors. NOTE: Surgical masks, cloth masks, and medical masks CANNOT protect you from haze as they are not well-fitting (when worn, gaps are formed between the mask and face, allowing haze particles to easily pass through). Read more here.

2. Use an AirFanta laminar air purifier, such as the AirFanta Wear, AirFanta 4Lite, or AirFanta mini, together with an N95 respirator (recommended) or by itself when it is not possible to use an N95. An AirFanta laminar air purifier is capable of greatly reducing the particulate matter in your breathing zone. Read more here.
