Can AirFanta Wear Protect You From The Haze?

AirFanta Wear is a wearable laminar air purifier designed to reduce the amount of airborne pollutants in the user’s breathing space.

In this article, we investigate whether the AirFanta Wear is capable of protecting the user from the haze. Let’s find out.

The haze test

The AirFanta Wear haze test was conducted on October 15, 2026 in the same building as the dokuki office. At the time of the test, the PM2.5 level inside the building where the test was conducted was around 75 ug/m³ to 80 ug/m³. The values were taken on a Temtop air quality sensor.

We turned on the AirFanta Wear and set it to the lowest speed and measured the air quality with our Temtop air quality sensor within 0 to 5 cm of the air outlet for roughly one minute. This replicates the actual usage of the AirFanta Wear – the user is recommended to keep their nose and mouth as close as possible (within 5 cm) to the center of the air outlet.

According to AirFanta, it takes roughly 10 seconds for the breathing space around the air outlet to be cleaned. Due to the nature of the Temtop air quality sensor, it took some time for it to reflect changes to the PM2.5 readings, but after about one minute or so, the PM2.5 level in the breathing space dropped from 75 ug/m³ to 17 ug/m³ – a 78% reduction, equivalent to reducing the long-term health consequences of haze from 3.4 hypothetical cigarettes a day to 0.77 cigarettes a day (assuming constant and consistent exposure throughout the year).

This proves that the AirFanta Wear is able to clean a very substantial amount of tiny haze particles in the user’s breathing space. Also, keep in mind that we performed the test for a very short duration of time.

Simple saccharin test

Back in late 2025, we had also conducted a series of simple saccharin tests to find out whether the AirFanta Wear could provide a high level of protection against airborne particles. We are sharing the results from the 2025 saccharin test for your reference.

The goal of a saccharin test is to find out whether you are being protected from airborne particles. A small amount of aerolized saccharin is sprayed from the nebulizer towards your face, with your mouth slightly open. If you can’t taste anything in mouth, it means whatever you’re using passed the test. If you can taste a sweetness in your mouth, it means that whatever you’re using failed the test. This is one of the tests used to check the fit of an N95 respirator.

Here are the results of the test:

Item testedResults
AirFanta Wear - Low speed (positioned directly in front of the face within a few centimeters)No sweetness tasted
AirFanta Wear - Low speed (positioned diagonally from the mouth at the left side of the cheek, about 2 cm away from the face)No sweetness tasted until around the 10-secondth mark where an extremely faint sweetness was tasted
AirFanta Wear - Low speed (positioned diagonally from the mouth at the left side of the cheek, about 8 cm away from the face)No sweetness tasted until around the 10-secondth mark where a slight sweetness was tasted
AirFanta mini (positioned directly in front of the face)No sweetness tasted
AirFanta 4Lite - Low speed (recommended distance is 30 cm)No sweetness tasted within 0 - 25 cm. Very slight sweetness around 25 - 40 cm
3M Aura 9210+ N95 RespiratorNo sweetness tasted
Surgical maskStrong sweetness tasted within 2 seconds, making the user cough
NothingStrong sweetness tasted within 1 second, making the user cough

The results found that the AirFanta Wear, as well as the AirFanta mini and AirFanta 4Lite, could protect a high level of protection against airborne particles as they passed the simple saccharin test, assuming they are used according to the instructions and recommendations provided. It also found that surgical masks fail to provide any meaningful protection against pollutants in the air, as compared to N95 respirators.

Bench test results of the AirFanta Wear performed by fit testing expert Gerard Hughes in late 2025 bore similar results and findings.

Things to take note of

For the best results, users must position their nose and mouth to the center of the air outlet, where the air from the laminar flow is the cleanest, and the face should be positioned as close to the air outlet as possible.

Ideally, we recommend everyone to use an N95 respirator (or something similar like a KN95 or KF94 respirator) as personal protection against the haze. The AirFanta Wear provides a very high amount of protection, but it is not a substitute for an N95 respirator. You can use both together for the best protection.

AirFanta Wear could also be used in situations such as when you have to take off your respirator to eat/drink, for times when you do not have access to a respirator, or for people who have certain medical issues that prevent them from using a respirator.

In addition, we have to point out that naturally, the AirFanta Wear works much better in areas with lower PM2.5 levels, so the reduction in PM2.5 is much higher than 78% when the air is cleaner.
